Marvin L. Lassiter, Jr.
Marvin L. Lassiter, Jr., 61, formerly of Roanoke Rapids, died Sunday, June 26, 2011 at Rex Rehab and Nursing Center in Apex, NC.
Marvin was born July 8, 1949 to Marvin L. Lassiter, Sr. and Charlotte H. Lassiter. He was a native son of the Town of Weldon. Mr. Lassiter was a graduate of Weldon High School, Atlantic Christian College and Chowan College. Marvin was a businessman and friend to the Town of Weldon and Roanoke Rapids, where he would marry and raise a family with June D. Lassiter, his wife of 31 years.
Marvin was a husband, father, grandfather, businessman, deacon and friend to all. He loved his family, working hard, and loved UNC basketball. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Roanoke Rapids, Roanoke Rapids Jaycees, and was an insurance agent for 30 years and Agency Manager for Halifax County Farm Bureau. Early in his career, he was a teacher and football and basketball coach at Halifax Academy.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Charlotte H. Lassiter and Marvin L. Lassiter, Sr. of Weldon.
He was deeply loved and is survived by his son, Marvin L. Lassiter, III and his wife, Nancy, of Cary; his daughter, Monica L. Frazier and her husband, Russ, of Apex; two granddaughters, Alexis Grace Lassiter and Katie Mabel Frazier; his brother, John E. Lassiter, Sr. and his wife, Susan, of Roanoke Rapids; two nephews, John E. Lassiter, Jr. and Jason I. Lassiter; and his aunt, Kay P. Hargrove, of Rocky Mount.
The family welcomes friends to his funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 29, in the chapel of Askew Funeral & Cremation Services, which is handling the arrangements, with Rev. Rick Gaskins officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon.
